FIRST Robotics Competition
The Robostangs (The Northville High School FRC team) are student-led and model a corporation with many sub-groups supporting both technical and business functions. Their mission is to compete successfully in FIRST FRC competitions and spread STEM to young people.
The robot build team focuses on quickly developing robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Robots are designed, built, and programmed from scratch using CAD, with custom parts manufactured and assembled in the team shop. They develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles and processes.
There is a significant business side of the team that perform Marketing, Sponsorships, Branding, Finance, Award Presentations, Photography, Social Media, Event Organization, Outreach, and Inreach/Pipeline functions. The Robostangs provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop leadership skills in all functions of an actual corporation.
The official season kicks off in early January and teams attend two district competitions in late-February and March with the opportunity to advance to state and world competitions in April. Meetings continue year-round during the off season. The Robostangs are coached and mentored by parents and team alumni, and meet 2-3 times a week (plus optional build meetings) at Northville High School.
