FIRST LEGO LEAGUE DISCOVER
In 2023, we started a new program known as FLL Discover to provide preschoolers (ages 4-5) with the opportunity to immerse themselves into the world of STEM. It guides the youth to explore the basics of STEM and apply their skills from our core lessons into their creations. These lessons aim to foster self-interest and collaborative skills among young learners. We run weekly sessions from February all the way through April where we mentored teams on the brainstorm, build, and presentation aspects of FLL Discover. The final showcase run is a way for the students to showcase their interests and collaborative skills at the end of the program. In addition to presenting their models, the kids participated in hands-on STEM activities. We allowed the students to experience our entire pipeline program, as we had robots from FTC at the showcase. The students were able to see these robots in action and experience what their future held in FIRST.
Building our pipeline, FLL Discover has served as an enriching opportunity for young individuals to immerse themselves into the world of STEM. The Northville Robostangs embraced this year's FLL Discover theme of Superpowered Energy, which not only helped them develop critical collaborative skills but also sparked their interest in renewable energy. Through their participation in this program, the young learners were able to gain hands-on experience, expand their knowledge, and apply STEM principles to highly-curated core lessons.
