About Us

History

The Robostangs were founded in 2001 by the high school's applied technology teacher, James Conzelman.  Since then, the team has attended six National Championships, won two Regional Tournaments, and received eleven FIRST Awards. As the team grew in size it became necessary for us to adopt a new organizational structure. At the end of the 2008 season the Robostangs created an organizational hierarchy that divided the team into categories based on what was being done by a certain group.  The "Org Chart" was born! Since that time we have made minor adjustments to the layout and function of this chart to make the team more efficient.

Another piece of documentation we have created to help propel future Robostangs to success is the team manual, the "Book of Knowledge."  This book was written during the 2010 season by the Robostang steering committee and is undergoing constant revisions.  The team embraces the idea that these are living documents and members are encouraged to suggest changes that will result in a better, more organized team.

Present Day

We started the 2012 season with another large team. Like last year, we have had to take organization a step further than we ever have before. To get new members better acquainted with what different areas of the team had to offer, we used the same multiple workshop system as last year. Several individual workshops,  each focusing on one aspect of the team (CAD, Animation, Build etc.) were provided for the new team members to get them interested in the various aspects of the team. Keeping this many students busy will be a challenge but the Robostangs feel blessed to have such a large, dedicated member base.

Reaching Out

Every Robostang partakes in and enjoys community outreach activities.  An example of how the Robostangs reach out is for two consecutive summers the Robostangs have hosted an event known as Robocamp to get middle school students interested in science and technology. To see more outreach activities the Robostangs do, see the events page.
